Reasons to Study Spanish in Barcelona
|
|
|
|
"If you alreay know us then words are not necessary, and if you do not know us yet, I am Demetrio Sánchez, the Director of Studies at the don Quijote school in Barcelona. I presume that you want to study Spanish. I can also imagine why you want to learn it: work, study or just for fun -which is, by the way, a magnificent reason. I also understand your doubts: Where? Barcelona? Why? The Ramblas, the Barceloneta, the Güell Park, the Sagrada Familia, Gaudí, Dalí... But all that is not enough without human warmth, without people. My colleagues and I know this from our experience, which is why we want to offer you our personal side as well as our professional side as much as possible. We are people who work with people, and when we give lessons in Spanish we try to make friends. The decision is yours."

Our school in Barcelona, very popular and celebrating its 10th anniversary, has moved to a fabulous building! An indispensable need we had to satisfy because of further growth! The school occupies an entire 5-story building and is located in the heart of the centre, just opposite the “Ritz Hotel” on the famous boulevard “La Gran Vía”.

65 spacious classrooms
|

You will make a lot of friends from all over the world!
|
The school has 65 classrooms all with windows and many with balconies. The ground floor is dedicated to the teachers’ room, multimedia classroom, central meeting and recreational area where you can watch TV, read the newspapers, have a coffee with your fellow students or do your homework. The last you can also do of course on… the magnificent roof terrace!
The City:
- Population: 1,500.000.
- Location: North East of Spain.
- The port of Barcelona is one of the largest in the Mediterranean.
- Barcelona has an international airport.
- The historical capital of Catalonia and Spain's second city.
Cultural/Recreational:
- The city offers a wide variety of art, a lively street life, an extensive nightlife and an international audience.
- Barcelona was the venue for the Olympic Games in 1992; a visit to the Olympic Village is not to be missed.
- At the end of September, one of the most important celebrations of the city takes place: the Mercè (patron saint of the city). During this time, there are many rock, pop and folk concerts, street-theatre productions and sporting activities.
- The city's history is beautifully reflected in the damous Barrio Gótico, the old quarter known as the Gothic Quarter because it is a treasure house of Gothic architecture, and where you can find both historic monuments and modern institutions.
- Barcelona's location offers easy access to the beaches of the Costa Brava and skiing resorts in the Pyrenees.
- Nearby are Sitges, Figueres, Empúries, and Girona, all of which are worth a visit.
- Barcelona is Spain's Mecca for modern art and theatre lovers. You can admire the work of Picasso, Miró and see Gaudi's famous Sagrada Familia, Güell Park and La Pedrera building.
Critical Comment:
- As Barcelona is located in Catalonia, the official languages spoken are Castilian and Catalan. Catalan is considerably different from Castilian (the official Spanish language). Naturally you will be taught in Castilian and all locals can speak both languages.
